JAPANESE THEATRE OF THE DEAF
The year 1981 was designated by the United Nations “International Year of the Handicapped.” We take the purpose of this designation to be a deepening of understanding and concern for the handicapped people of the world, and a furthering of the movement to insure that all time and space in the world be shared equally by handicapped and non-handicapped alike. We believe that this movement includes the joint participation of handicapped and non-handicapped people in the creation of objects and activities of high cultural value, and we affirm the necessity of this.

KADEN Theater Company
Our company’s core upon expression is the typical and original “Japanese aesthetics” that the Japanese culture withholds, and we pursue the “Aesthetics in stylization” in each and every element concerning the stage. Our expression is based on the traditional Japanese theater methods which are deeply related to the “respect to the floor”, and by sprinkling Western style expression in our works, we pursue to create our original course of expression. In the theater with unlimited possibilities as the “Synthetic arts” through assimilating different elements with “Japan” as our absolute base, the creation of an original genre of the theater arts is our aim upon pursuing the “Japanese aesthetics”.

Kaimaku Pennant race
“Kaimaku Pennant race” has acted in Tokyo since 2006 under the style of “Destructed power.” The idea behind this style is that the actor’s body is overworked to the point of exhaustion. At the level of breakdown, the body exhibits a stronger and more powerful energy than from the start. As a new style of Japanese theatre, we reinterpret classical drama of both Eastern and Western, and we create new types of drama stories by performing with body expression. We hope this will create a chance for everybody outside of Japan to see a new type of Japanese performance.

Mixedmedia Product
Mixedmedia Product (MMP) is a label for creative work. MMP invites artists and specialists to each project to develop new ways of expression. Their main project, "Series Complex Seeing," explores a combination of documentary and theatre, examining possible ways for different points of view, opinions and thoughts to coexist on stage. The project’s main work, "Atomic Survivor - Vanya's Children," depicts issues of nuclear energy in Japan combined with scenes from Chekhov's play. Their other projects include "Mame (or Micro) PDF Theatre," which presents classic plays as micro-sized PDF files, and "Text Dub" that investigates ways of cutting and remixing text.

Science Project
I founded Science Project in 1999 to create an investigative, scientific theater. Since then, I've made collaborative works in many countries. These works (reviewed in TDR, Time Out New York, etc.) have been called "uncanny", "beautiful monsters", "forceful", and "ever-radical". I make performances to examine basic human structures, but the subject of my work is always theater itself. I love actors, and auditions, and audiences. I am taken with backstage. Using theater as both model and phenomenon, I make site-specific work which is always, in part, about the theater itself, and in essence, about the foundations of reality.
