KUROSAWA Mika
KUROSAWA Mika, the ‘God Mother’ of Japanese contemporary dance scene, is born in 1957 in Yokohama into a family of modern dancers/choreographers. Being a promising young dancer, she went to New York in 1982, where she developed her own distinct style through collaborations with local artists and being strongly influenced by the experimental, bare-movement style of the Judson group. Kanokoto
Founded by TODA Hiroki in 1997. Presented “Defeated Hope/Station” in 2005, “Before Society Begins” in 2007, and other works. “Let’s say, now and here, what only theatre can do lies in the fact that an actor is a human being who has ‘emotions.’ A line is given to an actor, and it goes through his emotions. These emotions are saved until they are used as tools on stage. Is such a thing possible? Maybe not. You need to change for this. You need to change. Into an ‘artificial’ domain. You need to change. You can count only on ‘imagination.’ You need to change…” (excerpted from “Before Society Begins”)
